William B. Hanson, M.D.William B. Hanson, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who joined with Drs. Johnston and Sanders in 1967 to form the foundation of Dothan’s first orthopaedic group practice—known today as Southern Bone & Joint Specialists. He continues to serve his patients by seeing them every other week in the clinic, while having added opportunity to spend time with his wife of 50 years, two grown children, and four grandchildren.
Dr. Hanson earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA, and went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency there. From 1965 to 1967, he served as an orthopaedic surgeon for the U.S. Air Force. Since that time, he has made his home in Dothan, AL.
During his years in private practice, Dr. Hanson has served as President of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL, President of Houston County Medical Society and President of Alabama Orthopaedic Society. He has also actively served area youth, as team physician for Houston Academy in Dothan, AL, for 15 years and as a physician for the Alabama State Crippled Children’s Clinic in Dothan, AL, for 21 years.
Dr. Hanson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Alabama Orthopaedic Society.
