J. Bret Simpson, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the care of diseased and injured muscles, bones, joints. After operating for 33 years, Dr. Simpson is now an office-based physician that practices general orthopedics and treats trauma and joint arthritis.
Dr. Simpson received his medical degree from Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Simpson began his career in 1984 and was a founding partner of SBJS in 1995.
In 2010, he became the first orthopaedic surgeon in the state of Alabama to become credentialed as a Certified Impact Consultant. He works in conjunction with athletic trainers and other area physicians by utilizing the ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) system to identify and manage concussions in young athletes.
A native of Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Simpson and his wife, Patti, reside in Dothan and have two sons. When not working, Dr. Simpson enjoys playing golf and being outdoors.
