Dr. Cory Daniel Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Samford University in Birmingham and earned his medical degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine. A native of Dothan, he joined Southern Bone & Joint Specialists in 2023. He specializes in sports medicine and joint replacement, performing both open and arthroscopic procedures for athletes of all ages, from children and adolescents to high school and college athletes and weekend warriors. He has a particular interest in complex reconstructive and replacement procedures of the shoulder. Dr. Smith performs arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, ankle, and wrist and performs hip and knee replacement. Dr. Smith completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and treats conditions of the hip, knee, foot/ankle, and upper extremities in children of all ages.
He trained at Hoag Orthopedic Institute where he cared for professional athletes with the Los Angeles Chargers and numerous collegiate and high school level athletic teams. He also completed the prestigious UniSports fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand, where he was the team physician for the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team, as well as the New Zealand Olympic team, Auckland Blues, College Rifles, and Black Ferns rugby clubs.
In his time away from work, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife, Maddie and their two children, playing the guitar and mandolin, cooking, fishing, playing golf, weightlifting, and podcasting.
