O.H. Chitwood III, M.D.

BIOGRAPHY

O.H. Chitwood III, MD is a former Officer in the US Navy but has called the Wiregrass home since 2000. He is an Auburn University graduate and attended medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. He completed his residency at the National Naval Hospital in Bethesda Maryland and completed his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia PA. He has served as a medical officer on board a US Navy Submarine Tender and was a staff Orthopaedic surgeon at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Named as one of America’s Top Doctors for 2018, Dr. Chitwood has been privileged to provide care to professional, college and high school athletes in many sports including football, baseball, softball, golf and basketball. He is an avid weightlifter and rugby player and understands the demands and needs of athletes. He aims to return the injured athletes back to play at the earliest and safest time.

While his practice primarily focuses on shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand problems he has extensive experience in general orthopedics and is part of a select group of surgeons providing sports medicine services in China. Minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques are his emphasis, but he also cares for many trauma patients and those who suffer with arthritis utilizing the latest reconstructive and joint replacement techniques.
